Getting About

Information on recognised walks, cycle routes and bus routes
We've compiled a list of links and information for everything you need to know about getting about to see the heritage collection. Located in the South Downs National Park, there is plenty of beautiful scenery to see whilst walking and driving.

There is an amazing selection of walks in this part of Hampshire. Some walks are long distance routes which criss-cross the area, others are shorter. For information on the choice available, go to the East Hampshire District Council website. The walks include special Jane Austen, Gilbert White and Edward Thomas walks which can be downloaded.

For bus routes, visit Stagecoach and search for up to the minute information. The no. 37 Stagecoach bus visits Petersfield, Selborne and Chawton along its route. The 64 bus runs from Winchester to Alton.

The National Park Authority has recently been awarded funding by the Department of Transport to rejuvenate cycling across the South Downs. More than £5 million will be invested towards its vision for a network of core cycling routes into and around the South Downs National Park. As details of this initiative are made public, we will update this section with more information on cycle routes. Current information is available from Visit Hampshire and South Downs National Park.

For recommendations on where to stay locally look at the accommodation pages on the Visit Hampshire website.
